The project formally begins. The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf issues the site approval letter authorizing locations inside Children's Hospital Los Angeles, kicking off the partnership.
Design work advances on the first lobby kiosk cart concept, refining the footprint and aesthetic to fit the hospital lobby environment.
Design development continues with a new architecture partner — Neiman — brought on to lead the build-out documentation and OSHPD-ready drawings.
Email coordination on June 15 confirms the on-site walk-through at 4650 Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA, with the electrical engineer to verify infrastructure for the kiosk build.
With the help of CHLA's facilities team, the lobby kiosk construction plans are formally submitted to OSHPD (Office of Statewide Health Planning & Development) for regulatory review.
A major milestone: OSHPD formally approves the lobby kiosk plans, clearing the path to construction. The 3-month review concludes successfully.
The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf franchise agreements are formally executed, locking in operating rights and clearing the way for the store openings.
After 17 months of planning, design, and approvals, the Lobby Kiosk officially opens its doors — bringing The Coffee Bean to patients, families, and staff.
The second CHLA location opens inside the hospital cafeteria, completing the rollout. Both locations now serve the CHLA community daily.
